In the place of the present church there was a church of unknown era that was destroyed during the siege of Ali Pasha of Ioannina in 1820-1822. The present church was erected on the initiative of Noussia (John) Chrysos in 1843 and was completed in 1845, with the construction of the temple and icons by the painter Theodosios Zois from Ioannina and his son Constantine. It is a three-aisled wooden-roofed basilica that in the west had a loggia, which was closed in 1910 to expand the church . Next to the church is the oldest cemetery of the city of Ioannina.
